Charity Blown at Home

Charity begins at home.  How many times have we all heard that. It’s little more than  excuse for keeping few sawbucks in your pocket instead of tossing into Santa’s Kettle on your way out of Dean & Delucca or Williams Sanoma or Harris Teeter.

Perhaps this it’s different; perhaps this year it’s not Bloomingdale’s you’re coming out of only to be confronted by “Santa” incessantly ringing that damn hand bell but K-Mart or Wal-Mart or, if Lady Luck has stuck by your side this year, Target.

You wisk by Santa without even dropping a quarter and you feel oddly OK with that.  There’s a reason:  you really CAN’T spare a fiver this year.
